This garlic chicken with honey sauce comes together in just 20 minutes and all in one pan! It’s made with just a handful of simple ingredients but it’s also LOADED with flavor.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 1 pound of boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • Kosher salt
  • fresh cracked pepper
  • thinly sliced green onion for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter in large pan over medium to medium-high heat.
  2. Slice chicken breast in half lengthwise, creating 4 thinner pieces of chicken.
  3. Season chicken on all sides with salt and pepper. Dredge on all sides with flour.
  4. Add chicken to the pan and cook on each side for 4-5 minutes or until a golden brown crust forms on the outside and the chicken is nearly cooked through. Set chicken aside.
  5. Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter in the pan. Reduce heat to medium-low. Once butter foams, add 6 cloves of thinly sliced garlic. Cook, stirring constantly for about 30-60 seconds or until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
  6. Add 1/4 cup soy sauce and 1 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar to deglaze the pan, scraping the yummy bits off the bottom. Add 1/3 cup honey along with a couple pinches of pepper and a small pinch of salt.
  7. Gently simmer the sauce over medium-low heat for about 4-5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly – enough to coat the back of a spoon. Add chicken and any juices from the chicken and cook for another minute or so until warmed through.
  8. Garnish with sliced green onion and enjoy!

Notes

  • Slice the chicken in half as evenly as possible. This will ensure that it cooks evenly and all the way through.
  • Make sure the pan is nice and hot before you add the chicken so that it sears and gets that beautiful dark golden brown crust. That is going to add more flavor to the chicken itself and more flavor to the honey sauce.
  • Don’t let the garlic burn! Keep the heat low and keep the garlic moving so that it cooks and becomes fragrant but doesn’t turn brown or burn.
  • Be sure to deglaze the pan and scrape all those yummy bits off the bottom! I find that this large saute pan works really well for searing and then using a soft spatula or whisk to gently scrape the pan clean. Those little bits are going to add tons of flavor to the honey sauce.
