Whipped Feta Dip with Chickpeas
This Whipped Feta Dip with Chickpeas is the easiest 5-minute appetizer you’ll find on the internet! It’s loaded with flavor, but filled with just a handful of simple ingredients and is super easy to throw together which will quickly make this your family’s favorite snack!

- It’s SO quick and easy! Just a handful of ingredients and a few minutes of prep time is all it takes to throw together this whipped feta dip! If you’re in a pinch and need a last-minute appetizer, keep a block of feta in the fridge so you can throw this dip together at a moment’s notice! Some whipped feta recipes call for leaving the feta out on the counter for an hour to allow it to come to room temperature, however, I’ve found a negligible difference in the texture between feta at room temp or feta straight from the fridge.
- This whipped feta is so versatile! It can be served as a quick and easy appetizer alongside fresh veggies or a complete meal with the addition of Mediterranean Chickpeas (from my Chickpea Gyros) and naan bread! That’s what makes this dish one of our family’s favorites – and to be honest, this ends up being a simple lunch for me several times a month because it’s just so tasty (and easy)!
- Speaking of versatility – this whipped feta can be topped with my sauteed chickpeas as I did in this recipe. But you can also top it with sun-dried tomatoes, roasted tomatoes, sliced olives, or even roasted garlic!
Instructions
Add feta, sour cream, zest and juice of 1 lemon, olive oil, chopped dill, along with a couple pinches of salt and pepper to a food processor.
Process ingredients until they are mostly smooth and creamy and everything is well combined. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
If you’re ready to take this feta dip to the next level throw together sautéed chickpeas from my Chickpea Gyros recipe!
Garnish with fresh dill and serve with sliced cucumbers and naan.
Tips
- I like to use a block of feta cheese, but crumbled feta will work as well. I find that the block of feta has a bit more moisture than the crumbled feta and whips more smoothly. If you’re using the crumbled feta, plan to add an additional tablespoon or so of olive oil to help it reach a smoother consistency.
- Feel free to switch up the herbs in this dip. I like the way that lemon and dill complement each other so well, but I’ve found that parsley, basil, or even cilantro also taste great! If you don’t have fresh herbs on hand, dried will work too – the flavor will just be slightly different. Keep in mind that the flavor of dried herbs is much stronger, so you can get away with using about half the amount of the flavor will be too strong!
- If you don’t have sour cream on hand you can use plain Greek yogurt in its place. I prefer to use full-fat sour cream or whole milk Greek yogurt in this recipe because I find that it gives the best flavor. Fat = flavor. And most low-fat sour creams or yogurts are just filled with preservatives and sweeteners. The full-fat options will also give you a creamier texture overall.
- Normally I recommend adding salt and pepper to a dish initially and then seasoning to taste afterward. But because feta is such a salty cheese to begin with, it’s best to add salt and pepper after everything is processed together so that it doesn’t make the dish too salty!
