Taxes

Please note that this “profit” does not consider the taxes I will pay. For example, my 2nd quarter estimated taxes were almost $24k in June! It’s easy to look at these numbers and think the profits from blogging are great (which they are!) but it’s also important to remember that taxes come along and take about 20-30%.

Expenses Breakdown

  • ConvertKit: As I mentioned in my last income report, I’ve stopped culling my email list which means my CK payments have increased again. I’m gaining about 1.2k new followers each week so at this point, it feels worth the extra money for me! My open rate has dipped to 25% as of late. It was around 35-40% towards the beginning of the year. Because of this, I may activate my re-engagement sequence and cull my list in 2025.
  • RankIQ: I tried out RankIQ for another month to check out the report that shows you which posts you should be updating. I found it helpful but ultimately I decided it wasn’t worth the monthly cost and cancelled.

What I’ve Been Up To

  • Vacation. We just spent 3 magical weeks in Italy! We started in Rome and then went to Florence, Venice, Bari, and Amalfi. While away, I responded to a few emails and approved comments on the blog but otherwise, I was able to fully unplug and enjoy vacation! I am very thankful for a career that allows me to do that.
  • Content. I’ve been publishing 1-2 new recipes per week (with the exception of our time in Italy). It feels good to be back to a somewhat normal publishing schedule.
  • Updating. My goal for this year was to update one old post per week in addition to the 1-2 new posts each week. So far, I think I’ve updated maybe 3. Woops! So, I’m recommitting to updating old content and finishing out the remainder of the year strong!

  1. Hey it is me again. I just have a question. How do you include a link with a phrase or sentence? For example: “This cat food recipe is good.” The previous sentence would be a link though instead of just words. Hope that makes sense. Thank you in advance for your response.

    1. I usually just add the link to whatever part of the sentence is most relevant to that link. In this one I’d put the link on the words “cat food recipe”. Hope that makes sense!

  2. Thanks for posting these every quarter. It’s very inspiring and gives me hope to get there one day. I love the blog update. It looks great and it’s easy to navigate.

    1. There is so much to learn!! I am still learning every day! Thank you for your kind words 🙂 I wish you the best of luck with your blog!!
