Ingredients for Italian Sliders

  • Kingโ€™s Hawaiian Rolls: Soft and slightly sweet rolls that hold everything together. Substitute with plain slider buns if you prefer.
  • Provolone Cheese: Melts beautifully and pairs perfectly with Italian deli meats. Mozzarella or Swiss are good alternatives.
  • Ham, Salami, and Pepperoni: The perfect trifecta for Italian sliders. Use your favorite cold cuts for this recipe.
  • Banana Peppers: Tangy and zesty for a pop of flavor. Pickled jalapeรฑos work if you want a bit of heat.
  • Red Onion: Adds crunch and sharpness. Sliced green bell pepper is a delicious addition as well.
  • Mayonnaise: Creamy base for the lettuce mix. Duke’s is our family’s favorite brand.
  • Italian Dressing: Brings zest and tang to the lettuce topping. Homemade or bottled both work well.
  • Iceberg Lettuce: Classic crisp crunch. Romaine or shredded cabbage can also be used.
  • Butter: Used for brushing on top to create golden, flavorful buns. Salted or unsalted works.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Adds nutty, cheesy flavor to the butter topping.
  • Italian Seasoning: Enhances the overall flavor with a mix of herbs. Dried oregano, dried thyme, and dried basil can be used if you donโ€™t have a blend.
  • Garlic Powder: Infuses the butter with a savory kick. Fresh minced garlic can also be used but it will pack a bit more of a punch.

How to Make Italian Sliders

Prepare the rolls: Heat oven to 350ยฐF. Slice the entire slab of rolls in half horizontally, keeping them in one large slab. Place the bottom half on a greased 9×13 baking sheet.

Layer the meats and cheese: Add provolone in an even layer, followed by ham, salami, and pepperoni. Top with banana peppers and red onion. Place the top half of the rolls on top.

Bake until golden: Bake uncovered for about 15 minutes until the cheese melts and the rolls are golden brown.

Make the lettuce topping: While the sliders bake, stir together mayonnaise and Italian dressing in a bowl. Mix in shredded lettuce until evenly coated.

Tips for Making Italian Sliders

  • Use a serrated knife to slice the rolls cleanly without squishing them.
  • Wait to add the lettuce until just before serving so it doesn’t wilt too much.

Make-Ahead Instructions

  • Assemble the sliders but don’t brush them with the melted butter mixture.
  • Cover tightly and refrigerate for up to 1 day before baking.
  • When you’re ready to bake, brush with garlic herb Parmesan butter and bake.
  • Plan to add an 5 extra minutes of baking time to account for the colder temperature.

Storing Leftovers

  • Wrap leftover sliders tightly in foil or place in an airtight container.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating Italian Sliders

  • Reheat in a 350ยฐF oven, wrapped in foil, for 10โ€“15 minutes or until heated through.
  • I don’t recommend reheating in the microwave as the bread will soften too much.
