Pizza Dough Pretzel Bites
This is the easiest pizza dough pretzel bites recipe ever! Just over 30 minutes and 6 ingredients is all it takes to get these salty little squares baked up fresh, warm and ready to eat! Serve with easy crock pot queso!
You’ll Love These
- They’re almost too easy to make! Did you see that ingredient list? And prep time? Both are short and sweet which means you can throw these together whenever the mood strikes for a tasty, homemade, salty snack!
- Everyone is going to LOVE them! And everyone is going to love YOU for making them. This is one of that’s snacks that is quintessentially a crowd-pleaser. Whether your family and friends enjoy dipping them in honey mustard, spicy mustard or my 4 ingredient queso is irrelevant. Everyone loves a soft pretzel and cutting them into cute little bites means they’ll just have to go back for more!
- The flavor is SO similar to a traditional soft pretzel. Honestly, if you had both side by side, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell a difference. Pizza dough and pretzel dough are so very similar that once the dough is boiled in baking soda water, there’s basically no difference between the two!
Instructions
Cut the rectangle of pizza dough lengthwise into 4 equal-sized strips.
Pinch the cut sides of the dough together.
Gently roll each strip into a rope.
Cut each rope into 1 inch pieces.
When the water comes to a boil, slowly pour in baking soda.
Add pizza dough squares in 2-3 batches to the boiling water, cooking the dough for about 30-60 seconds.
Use a slotted spoon to remove boiled dough from the pot.
Place them on a paper towel lined baking sheet. Continue with remaining dough.
Transfer dough bites to a parchment lined baking sheet. Brush each bite with egg wash.
Bake for 15-18 minutes or until pretzels are dark golden brown.
Brush pretzel bites with butter and sprinkle with Kosher salt.
Serve with cheese sauce or honey mustard and enjoy!
Tips
- Don’t fill the pot of water too full. You want it at least 3-4 inches below the rim of the pot. If you fill it too full, after you add the baking soda it will overflow and make a big mess.
- Gently peel the pretzel bites from the paper towel lined baking sheet. The pretzel bites will want to stick to the paper towel after you remove them from the boiling water. The paper towel is important because it will soak up the excess water from the pretzel bites. If you peel very gently, the pretzel bites will release easily. Slow and gentle is key here!
- Check the pretzel bites after about 13-14 minutes in the oven and pull them as soon as they’ve reached your desired level of dark brown deliciousness. I like a nice deep dark brown color on my soft pretzels, but some prefer a sun kissed light brown. If you want to pull them before they get dark brown, I’d recommend tasting one of them just to make sure that they are cooked all the way through in the middle.

I never thought the best pretzels I ever have would be from my own kitchen using pizza dough!!! So incredibly easy and delicious. I cut mine in longer strips rather than bites (4 small ropes cut from each of the 4 longer ropes, yielded 16 “sticks” total) and they were perfectly crisp on outside, while staying soft, warm, and airy on the inside. Seriously addicting!
I love that you cut that into strips! That is GENIUS!!!!!!! I am totally trying that next time I make this recipe. Thanks so much for leaving a review, Reese. I’m so glad that you enjoyed it!
It is so rare that even when I follow a recipe to the T, the finished product looks EXACTLY like the recipe pictures. But this does, and it tastes awesome. My husband: “These are SO good!” Paired with a spicy beer cheese, of course!
Yayyyyyyyy! I love to hear that! Thanks so much for leaving a review, Maddie 🙂
Haven’t made these YET. Wondering if they can be frozen at any point in the process or only once cooked. It’s just my husband and I.
Hmmm good question! I have never tried freezing them but I’m not sure that it would work well. If I were to freeze them, I’d do it after they’re fully cooked.
When I made these, when I dropped them into the boiling baking soda water they got all mushy. What am I doing wrong? I saw other recipes that said drop them in a warm baking soda bath. Help please
Can you tell me more about the mushiness? Because they will get mushy after they are boiled! Please reference the process shots – you can see that after they are boiled they are slightly mushy on the sheet pan. Once they are baked they lose the mushy texture and become nice and golden brown with a delicious crust. I do also recommend in the recipe card using a slotted spoon to remove the bites from the boiling water since they will have a looser texture after boiling. I’d love to hear a bit more about what you experienced. Did you continue with the recipe after boiling? How did they turn out?
So fun and what a great treat to make up and so much better than opening a briefing bag of chips!! Thanks so much for sharing this with all of us!!
Delicious! Made these twice now! Although I recommend keeping the bites on the larger side, the first time i think mine were too small and they were just a little too crunchy, not like a big soft pretzel that you think of. In addition i would tell you to cook at 425 for 15 minutes (they’re only a light golden brown at this point) TURN THE OVEN OFF AND DON’T OPEN THE DOOR. That’s when I make the cheese sauce and by the time i’m done making my cheese sauce they’re nice and browned but not too crunchy. Thanks for the recipe!
I have not tried yet but planning on soon. Quick question? Are they still soft if eaten the day after making?
Planning on making some of these for an office potluck with warm cheese so, I would appreciate the feedback.
Delight and so easy. DH loved them. Had them as an appetizer for family Zoom. Everyone was jealous.
I am so glad that you enjoyed these pretzel bites, Lisa! Hopefully you can share the recipe with the fam so they can enjoy them too 😉 Thanks for leaving a review – I really appreciate it!
These are so easy and absolutely delicious! You pay 8-11 dollars for 8 preztzel sticks in the frozen food section, or 6.00 for 4 pretzel buns. You can make these with premade dough or actual buy the little mixes for .98 and they turn out amazing too. I made bites, rolls and hot dog buns, they were all yummy! Thank you for sharing this, we have really enjoyed it!
Easy recipe. Great tips.
So glad you enjoyed this recipe, Katherian! Thanks for leaving a review 🙂
