Ingredients for Creamy Sausage Ravioli Skillet

  • Hot Italian Sausage: Adds bold, savory flavor and richness. Mild Italian sausage or ground beef works well if you prefer less heat.
  • Herbs & Spices: Garlic powder and rubbed sage combine to add tons of flavor in just seconds. You can also use dried oregano or Italian seasoning if you’re not into sage.
  • Spaghetti Sauce: Keeps the recipe quick and easy. Use any favorite jarred marinara or homemade spaghetti sauce.
  • Refrigerated Cheese Ravioli: The star of the dish, cooking perfectly al dente right in the sauce. Frozen ravioli works too! Just add a couple extra minutes of simmer time, and you may need to add a bit more water also.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Adds salty, nutty flavor and helps thicken the sauce. Romano or Asiago are great substitutes.
  • Heavy Cream: Makes the sauce rich and creamy. Half and half can also be used, but the sauce will be thinner.
  • Shredded Whole Milk Mozzarella: Melts smoothly for that classic cheesy pull. Low-moisture part-skim mozzarella works as well, but you’ll be sacrificing a bit in the flavor/texture department!
  • Fresh Mozzarella: Adds extra creaminess and a luxe finish. Burrata or additional shredded mozzarella can be substituted.

Heat a large sautรฉ pan or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook, crumbling it with a spatula, until browned and cooked through.

Tips for Making Creamy Sausage Ravioli Skillet

  • After you add the spaghetti sauce, swish the half cup of water around in the jar to get every last bit of sauce out.
  • Use a large skillet with a lid so the ravioli cooks evenly in the sauce.
  • Cooking time may vary depending on the brand of ravioli. Carefully testing the ravioli is the best way to check if it’s done.
  • Keep a close eye while broiling. Cheese can go from golden to burnt very quickly!

Make-Ahead Instructions

  • You can brown the sausage and assemble the sauce up to a day ahead.
  • Store it covered in the refrigerator, then reheat gently on the stove, and add the ravioli when ready to cook.

Storing Leftovers

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • The sauce will thicken as it sits, but it stays delicious.

Freezing Creamy Sausage Ravioli Skillet

I don’t recommend freezing this skillet ravioli as the texture of the ravioli will become mushy after freezing, thawing, and reheating.

Reheating Creamy Sausage Ravioli Skillet

  • Reheat gently on the stovetop over medium-low heat, adding a splash of water or cream to loosen the sauce.
  • You can also microwave individual portions in 30-second intervals, stirring between each.
  • Season to taste with salt and pepper before serving.
