Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Fresh Green Beans – Be sure to trim the ends off the green beans. I like to leave the beans whole but you are welcome to cut them into 2-3 inch pieces as well.
  • Olive Oil – You can sub the olive oil with grapeseed oil or avocado oil if you prefer. You could also use an olive oil cooking spray instead.
  • Italian Seasoning – If you don’t have Italian seasoning on hand, try dried oregano, dried rosemary, and dried sage instead.
  • Garlic Powder – You could sub the garlic powder with dried minced garlic or garlic flakes as well.
  • Easy Garlic Parmesan Cream Sauce – So, this isn’t strictly necessary, but I *highly* recommend taking a few extra minutes to make this creamy garlic sauce. It’s the perfect drizzle or dip to pair with the tender-crisp fresh green beans. Parmesan cheese and green beans go together like peanut butter and jelly – promise!

Instructions

Set air fryer to 375 degrees. Wash, trim, and dry beans. Place in a large bowl and drizzle them with olive oil. Season with Italian seasoning, garlic powder and a couple large pinches of salt and pepper.

Tips

  • The green beans will cook best if they’re arranged in a single layer in the air fryer. That’s what I love my Instant Vortex because it has 2 trays that I can arrange the green beans on. If you aren’t able to arrange them in a single layer, you could also try cooking them in two batches instead.
  • Don’t forget to flip the beans! To get a nice, even cook on the green beans, flip them or give the air fryer basket a shake about halfway through.
  • If you like your beans crunchy, you’ll only need to air fry them for about 5-6 minutes. If you prefer a more well done green bean, feel free to cook them for the full 10 minutes.

Air Frying Frozen Green Beans

  • I prefer the texture of fresh air fryer green beans as opposed to using frozen green beans. I find that the fresh green beans end up with a slightly more crisp texture.
  • However, frozen green beans will totally work too in a pinch and the flavor will still be delicious!

FAQ

Can you put wet vegetables in an air fryer?

While it is best to let vegetables dry out a bit before putting them in the air fryer, washed vegetables with a little bit of water on them do not hurt the air fryer or cooking process. The advantage to drying your veggies thoroughly before adding them to the air fryer is that they will get more crispy on the outside.

How do you air dry green beans?

Lay the green beans out in a single layer on a paper towel-lined baking sheet until dry. You can also use a clean kitchen towel to gently dry the green beans.

Can you use olive oil in air fryer?

Yes! Make sure you use just enough to coat the veggies. This will ensure that the veggies get a delicious crispiness on the outside.

Make-Ahead, Storage, and Reheating

  • Make-Ahead: These green beans are best fresh from the air fryer and warm, but you can make them ahead and then reheat them in the oven or air fryer when you’re ready to serve.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Reheating: Reheat the green beans either in the air fryer at 350 degrees, or on a sheet pan in the oven at 350 degrees.
