- Easy Casserole. It’s a great way to feed a crowd! All the classic biscuits and gravy flavors you love are transformed into a baked casserole format.
Ingredients for Biscuits and Gravy Casserole
- Pork Sausage: Mild or spicy sausage adds hearty flavor.
- Butter: Enhances the richness of the gravy and combines with the flour to thicken it.
- All-Purpose Flour: Helps thicken the gravy. Stick with all-purpose for this casserole recipe.
- Herbs: Italian seasoning and rubbed sage are my two favorites for this sausage gravy. Use your family’s favorite dried herbs.
- Spices: Garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika add tons of flavor in no time!
- Half and Half: Creates a creamy, smooth gravy. Heavy cream is a little too thick for this gravy but you could use a combo of equal parts heavy cream and whole milk to create your own half and half at home.
- Refrigerated Biscuits: A quick and easy shortcut for a flaky biscuit topping. I like buttermilk or southern homestyle.
How to Make Biscuits and Gravy Casserole
Preheat the Oven: Set oven to 375 degrees and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Cook the Sausage: Heat a large sauté pan over medium heat. Add sausage and cook, crumbling with a spatula, until browned and cooked through.
Make the Gravy: Add butter to the pan and let it melt. Sprinkle in flour, Italian seasoning, rubbed sage, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently for about a minute.
Slowly whisk in half and half, bringing it to a simmer. Simmer gently for 3-5 minutes, or until the gravy thickens.
Assemble the Casserole: Pour the sausage gravy into the greased 9×13 pan. Use kitchen shears to cut the biscuits into quarters and place them in a single layer on top of the gravy.
Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
