Easy Big Mac Sliders Recipe
- It’s such an easy dinner recipe! This recipe makes 12 cheeseburger sliders so it’s perfect for family dinner. And it takes just minutes to throw together so you’ll have time to do it even on a busy weeknight. They’re easily customizable and a great alternative to stopping at the McDonald’s drive-thru on the way home from soccer practice!
- These Big Mac sliders are perfect for a party! Grab a party pack of King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls (24 rolls), then double the rest of the ingredients and you will have enough to feed a crowd! Everyone loves burgers and sliders are the perfect hand-held meal to serve when having friends over. Add toppings to the whole slab of sliders or turn it into a burger bar and have guests top their own sliders!
Ingredients for Big Mac sliders
- Ground Beef: I like to use 90/10 ground beef for these cheeseburger sliders. Leaner beef won’t give you as much flavor and a fattier ground beef may be too greasy.
- Spices: Garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika are the perfect trio to give these sliders that classic burger flavor.
- Hawaiian Slider Buns: Use your favorite slider rolls for this recipe! King’s Hawaiian 12-pack of slider rolls is a classic choice but other brands have similar-sized slider rolls that are delicious as well!
- American Cheese: I don’t often use American cheese (AKA Kraft singles) but for these Big Mac sliders, American cheese is a tradition. You can also use your favorite melty sliced cheese.
- Butter + Sesame Seeds: A brush of melted butter and a sprinkle of sesame seeds add that signature sesame seed bun look of the Big Mac.
- Burger Sauce: My Big Mac sauce is the key to making these sliders taste just like a Big Mac. I like to add a dollop to each slider and then serve more on the side as well.
- Toppings: Shredded lettuce, dill pickle chips, and diced onion add some fresh flavors to the hearty sliders.
How to Make Cheeseburger Sliders
Brown ground beef in a large cast iron pan. Drain the grease off and stir in spices.
Slice the rolls in half and broil the cut side until golden brown and crispy. Add seasoned ground beef and cheese to the bottom slider buns. Brush the top buns with butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Top with lettuce, pickles, and onion. Then drizzle and dollop the burger sauce liberally!
Place sesame seed slab of buns on top, slice into sliders, and serve!
Tips for Making Cheeseburger Sliders
- Drain the ground beef after browning! I don’t often recommend draining the grease off ground beef because it has tons of flavor. However, for this recipe, it’s important that the grease is drained off so that it doesn’t make the slider buns soggy.
- Broil the slider buns! A quick broil is the perfect way to crisp up the inside of the buns and prevent them from getting soggy when you add the meat and cheese.
- Layer the beef first and then the cheese! To prevent the ground beef from falling out of the sliders, it’s important to layer the ground beef first and then top it with the slices of cheese. Then the cheese melts into the meat AND holds it in place after you top it with the lettuce, pickles, and onions.
- Add more cheese if you want! If you want super cheesy sliders, add another layer of cheese underneath the meat so that it’s enveloped in melty cheese.
- Double the meat! If you’re looking for a meaty meal, double the beef and the garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. This will give you a thicker, heartier layer of meat. Be sure to drain the grease off so it doesn’t make the sliders soggy.
Big Mac Sauce Recipe
- Special sauce is what sets the Big Mac apart from other burgers and my homemade Big Mac sauce is SO easy to throw together!
- It’s made with a handful of simple ingredients, most of which you’ve probably already got on hand – mayo, ketchup, relish, and a few spices.
- You can make the burger sauce days in advance and the flavor just gets better with time!
Variations
The best part about this recipe is that it’s super versatile! You can add whatever toppings you’d like and it’s a great “clean out the fridge” meal. Some of our favorite variations include:
- crispy sliced bacon
- BBQ sauce instead of burger sauce
- caramelized onion or pickled onions instead of fresh diced onion
- pepper jack cheese instead of American
- sliced avocados
- pickled jalapenos
- fried egg
- fresh tomatoes
Make-Ahead Instructions
- If you want to prep these sliders 30 minutes in advance and then pop them in the oven, that is totally cool.
- But any longer than that and I’d recommend just prepping the individual ingredients ahead of time instead.
- Brown the ground beef, prepare the toppings, and mix together the burger sauce up to a day in advance!
- Then when you’re ready to eat, just warm up the ground beef, assemble the sliders, and bake!
Storage + Reheating
As with most burger recipes, these sliders taste best when they’re fresh from the oven. Because of the toppings and the nature of the dish, it’s best not to refrigerate or reheat these Big Mac sliders. They are best enjoyed within 30 minutes of making them!
