Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Cream Cheese: For the best fruit dip consistency, use full-fat cream cheese to get the best flavor and texture. No need to let it come to room temperature, just use it straight from the fridge or the consistency of the dip will be too thin.
  • Maple Syrup: Use real maple syrup for this fruit dip recipe. The fake stuff is way too sweet and the end result will be a dip that’s too sweet as well. If the only ingredient listed on the bottle is maple syrup, that’s how you know it’s pure maple syrup. Pancake syrup (containing corn syrup and other ingredients) will work in a pinch but I’d start with half the amount called for in the recipe and add more to taste.
  • Heavy Cream: Add more or less heavy cream depending on the consistency you like for your fruit dip. Less will give you a thicker dip, while more will give you a thinner dip. You can also substitute half and half or whole milk for the heavy cream, but the consistency will be thinner.
  • Vanilla Bean Paste: If you can’t find vanilla bean paste, vanilla extract will also work very well instead. I just love the little flecks of vanilla bean throughout the fruit dip that the vanilla bean paste gives.

Pro Tip for Mixing Fruit Dip

If you don’t have a food processor, you can use an electric hand mixer or a stand mixer on low speed or medium speed to easily combine all the ingredients. If you don’t have either, this recipe might be harder to throw together as you can’t whisk or mix cold cream cheese without some power. However, you could let the cream cheese soften until it’s easy to mix, and then use some elbow grease to stir all the ingredients together until smooth. Then refrigerate the dip for a few hours to firm up again.

Make Fruit Kebabs!

One of my favorite ways to serve this fruit dip is with fruit kebabs. My daughter likes fruit, but when I put it on a wooden skewer she is 100% more likely to finish it. Skewer a few different kinds of fruit and pair them with this simple fruit dip for an easy weeknight dessert!

  • blueberries
  • raspberries
  • blackberries
  • strawberries
  • sliced bananas
  • sliced pears
  • sliced apples
  • diced pineapple
  • orange slices
  • grapes
  • vanilla wafers
  • graham crackers
  • animal crackers
  • diced pound cake
  • pretzels

No Marshmallow Fluff or Cool Whip

  • I’m not a huge marshmallow fluff fan so I opted to leave it out in this recipe. I prefer the taste and texture of the dip without it. I found that the recipes with marshmallow fluff were a bit too thick and ended up having a texture similar to marshmallow fluff. I prefer a creamier dip.
  • If you like a marshmallow cream cheese fruit dip you can totally stir in some marshmallow fluff after processing all the ingredients together.
