Easy Garlic Parmesan Chicken Recipe
- Quick and easy: Ready in just 30 minutes using one pan and simple pantry staples.
- Rich and comforting: A creamy, cheesy garlic sauce makes this chicken irresistibly delicious.
Ingredients for Garlic Parmesan Chicken
- Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast: Sliced thin for quick, even cooking. Chicken thighs can be used as well.
- Flour: Lightly coats the chicken to create a golden crust and thickens the cream sauce. Stick with all-purpose for this recipe.
- Italian Seasoning: Adds herbaceous flavor to the sauteed chicken breast and the sauce! Use a mix of dried oregano, dried basil, and dried thyme if you don’t have the blend on hand.
- Garlic Powder: Boosts the garlic flavor in the crust. Onion powder can be a delicious addition as well.
- Butter: Adds richness to the sauce as it creates the perfect base for sautéing the garlic.
- Garlic: Use freshly minced for the best flavor. Pre-minced or garlic paste works in a pinch.
- Chicken Broth: Adds savory flavor. Use chicken stock or vegetable broth if needed.
- Heavy Cream: Makes the sauce creamy and luxurious. Half and half will work but the suace will be thinner.
- Shredded Parmesan Cheese: Melts into the sauce for cheesy flavor. Freshly grated is best, but pre-shredded works in a pinch.
How to Make Garlic Parmesan Chicken
Prep the chicken. In a shallow dish, mix flour, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Slice each chicken breast in half lengthwise for thinner cutlets, then dredge them in the flour mixture.
Sear the chicken. Heat olive oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat. Cook the chicken for 4-6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Set aside.
Make the garlic Parmesan sauce. In the same pan, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add garlic and Italian seasoning with a pinch of salt and pepper. Sauté for 1 minute. Stir in flour and cook for another minute.
Add broth and cream. Whisk in chicken broth, scraping up the browned bits. Stir in heavy cream and Parmesan. Simmer until smooth and creamy.
Finish and serve. Return the chicken to the pan and simmer for a minute or two until heated through. Garnish with parsley and serve with pasta or veggies.

Many of your recipes call for garlic powder. My question is, can garlic powder and granulated garlic be used interchangeably? The difference seems to be in the texture, not the flavor. They’re both shortcuts that save time and effort. I always have granulated on hand, and it stores better than the powdered form which gets lumpy more readily.
I think they can be used interchangeably! I think the only difference really is a slight textural difference. Great question, StuKin!
