Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Seasoned Waffle FriesFrozen seasoned waffle fries are best for these loaded French fries and can be found at your local grocery store in the frozen foods aisle. If you prefer to make your own, try my super easy homemade crispy baked fries recipe! The fries are going to act as the base instead of the pizza crust, so you want to make sure it’s a sturdy layer of fries!
  • Mozzarella Cheese – I like to use whole milk shredded mozzarella for this pizza because that extra bit of fat gives the dish more flavor. Remember, fat equals flavor!
  • Pizza Sauce – Most pizza sauce is made with canned tomatoes along with Italian herbs and spices. If you don’t have a jar of sauce in the cupboard, marinara sauce is another great option, although it is a bit thinner.
  • Pepperoni – We like pepperoni on our pizza, but top your pizza fries with whatever you like best! If I need to clean out the fridge I like load these fries with onions, peppers, olives, bacon – whatever we have on hand!

Type of Fries

I prefer to use waffle fries for this recipe but you can use any of the following:

Add cooked fries to a parchment-lined 9×13 baking sheet.

Tips

  • If you can only find unseasoned fries, try using Lawry’s seasoning salt or make a homemade fry seasoning to add extra flavor to the fries. I also recommend adding a sprinkle of garlic powder, dried oregano, or Italian seasoning!
  • If you don’t have parchment paper, try lining the baking tray with tin foil and spray with cooking spray instead.
  • If you are using toppings that need to be cooked, make them while you’re baking the fries to save on some time.
  • Garnish this recipe with parsley, sliced pickled jalapenos, grated Parmesan, red pepper flakes , or anything else you might eat with your pizza.
  • If you don’t have a baking sheet, you can totally make these pizza fries in a 9×13 baking dish or a cast-iron skillet.

Favorite Pizza Toppings

Here are some of our family’s favorite different toppings for these pizza fries!

  • Hawaiian Pizza Fries – try using Canadian bacon or ham and pineapple
  • Steak Fries – use leftover sliced steak, cheddar cheese, and green bell pepper
  • Vegetarian – try black olives, green peppers, and mushrooms
  • Kid-Friendly – use mini pepperoni slices and cheddar cheese
  • Tangy – add sliced salami and banana pepper rings
  • Salty – try anchovies and kalamata olives

Make-Ahead, Storage, Freezing, and Reheating

  • Make-Ahead: Pizza fries are best served warm straight from the oven so I don’t recommend making these ahead of time. You can however prep all the ingredients up to 3 days in advance which will save time when you’re ready to bake the fries and assemble!
  • Storage:  If you do end up with leftovers (which is highly unlikely, trust me!) store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Freezing: I do not recommend freezing the pizza fries once they have been assembled and baked.
  • Reheating: To reheat pizza fries, transfer them to a baking sheet and bake at 300 degrees for about 5 minutes or until warmed through.
