How to Reheat Pizza in the Air Fryer

Reheating leftovers to their original glory is a mystery we’ve been trying to solve for a while now, especially when it comes to pizza. The microwave is a hard pass as it just makes it soggy and limp. The oven takes forever to preheat and when you want a quick slice there’s no time for that. Luckily, air fryers have completely changed the game when it comes to reheating leftover pizza! You can have a hot slice ready in about 5 minutes – complete with crispy crust and melty cheese!

You Should be Reheating Your Pizza in the Air Fryer – Trust Me!

  • It’s by far the quickest and most convenient way to reheat pizza! The oven takes time to heat up, the microwave makes cold pizza slices soggy and chewy, and reheating in a pan on the stove is not ideal. But with the air fryer, you can have fresh-tasting, piping-hot pizza in about 5 minutes!
  • This air fryer pizza recipe is less a recipe and more just an amazing tip to make your life and your pizza better! Nothing beats fresh pizza but you can get a great texture and a perfectly crispy crust by using your air fryer to transform leftover pizza slices into the best leftovers you’ve ever eaten.

How Does the Air Fryer Work?

  • Air fryers cook by circulating hot air creating a convection-style oven.
  • Whether you’re using a basket-style air fryer or a more oven-style air fryer, the food is set on a perforated surface that allows the hot air to circulate around the food giving it an even cook and making it evenly browned and crisped.
  • Because of this cooking style, the air fryer is perfect for pizza because it heats it all the way through while simultaneously crisping the crust and melting the cheese.

Don’t Preheat the Air Fryer!

  • It’s not a huge deal if you accidentally preheat the air fryer. It’s just not necessary in this case!
  • For this reheating technique, I find that if you put the pizza into the air fryer when it’s still cold, then as the air fryer heats up the pizza does as well.
  • I’ve also found that this allows the pizza to reheat more thoroughly and prevents it from burning.

How to Reheat Pizza in the Air Fryer

Do not preheat the air fryer! Place leftover slices of pizza on the air fryer tray/basket. Turn the air fryer to 350 degrees. Cook pizza for 3-5 minutes or until it’s warmed through and the cheese is melty. Enjoy!

How to Reheat Frozen Pizza in the Air Fryer

You can also reheat frozen pizza in the air fryer! To do this, simply double the cooking time. Place the pizza slices in the air fryer basket or on the tray as normal, making sure it lays in one layer, then reheat at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until it’s warmed through and the cheese is melty.

Tips for Reheating Pizza in the Air Fryer

  • There’s no need for parchment paper or tin foil because the tray/basket is coated with a non-stick coating. However, if you have super cheesy pizza, you may want to add a sheet of parchment to make for easy cleanup. You also don’t need to spray the tray or basket with olive oil or spray the pizza either.
  • Place pizza slices in a single layer without overlapping. To make sure each piece of pizza reheats evenly and they don’t stick together, it’s best to make sure the pizza slices are laid out in one layer. This might mean that you have to reheat the pizza in batches. It’s also best to make sure they are spaced apart a bit so the heat can circulate around them. So if you’re reheating a whole pizza, separate out each piece.
  • If the cheese or toppings are starting to brown before the pizza is warmed through, turn the temperature down by about 20-25 degrees.

Thin Crust vs. Deep Dish

  • Thin crust pizza is going to take just 3-5 minutes to reheat while cast iron pizzasheet pan pizza, thick crust pizza, or Detroit style pizza will take closer to 5-7 minutes. You can check the pizza after a few minutes and add more time as needed.
  • Be sure to keep a close eye on whichever type of pizza you’re reheating because the air fryer is very efficient at cooking and your pizza can go from perfectly crisp to a bit burned in less than a minute.

FAQ

How long do you air fry pizza to reheat it?

Depending on the type of pizza you’re reheating, it will take 3-10 minutes to reheat the pizza thoroughly. If the pizza has a thicker crust, it will take longer, and deep dish pizza might need up to 12 minutes depending on the air fryer you have.

This is where not preheating the air fryer comes in! My trick here is to put the pizza in the air fryer without preheating it. That way as the air fryer heats up the pizza does too and there’s less of a risk of overcooking it.

What is the best way to heat up leftover pizza?

The best way to reheat leftover pizza is with the air fryer! It’s the easiest and most convenient way to reheat all kinds of pizza.

What’s the difference between reheating pizza in the air fryer compared to the oven or microwave?

The oven does a pretty good job of reheating, but it takes forever to preheat! Plus then your whole kitchen is warm from the oven being on. The microwave heats unevenly making the pizza soggy and the crust chewy. But the air fryer naturally circulates air to evenly reheat the pizza giving you melty cheese and a crispy crust!
