Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Flatbread Crust – For this chicken BBQ flatbread pizza, I love to use my easy homemade flatbread recipe! It requires no yeast, and no rising time, so it literally takes 5 minutes to throw together with just a few ingredients. However, store-bought works too! Naan bread could also be used in place of the flatbread crusts, but you might need 3 or more as those are a bit smaller.
  • BBQ Sauce – Use your favorite BBQ sauce for this pizza. This is our family’s favorite barbecue sauce!
  • Grilled Chicken – For this BBQ chicken flatbread pizza you can use grilled chicken or rotisserie chicken. Use whatever you’ve got leftover!
  • Colby Jack Cheese – I like the combo of Colby Jack because it melts easily and I like the color combo but you can use whatever melty cheese you like!
  • Bell Pepper – Use a combination of different peppers for added color. I like to use the mini peppers when I can find them at the store.

Instructions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Place flatbread crusts onto two baking sheets dusted with cornmeal. Divide BBQ sauce between the two flatbreads, spreading it in an even layer.

Tips

  • This recipe makes 2 BBQ chicken flatbread pizzas, but you can totally scale it to feed a crowd or halve the recipe and just make one if you’re only feeding a couple people!
  • Don’t overload the flatbread with toppings! Remember that flatbread crust is thin so you don’t want to pile it high with toppings. A flatbread with too many toppings won’t cook through and it may end up soggy in the middle. Spreading the toppings in an even layer and not using more than is called for in this recipe will ensure that your flatbread is crisp and delicious!
  • I hear that Panera has a great BBQ chicken flatbread, but I’ll tell you they’ve got nothin’ on this one! The best part about making your own flatbread at home is that you can totally customize it to fit your families taste. Or better yet, let them assemble their own flatbread so they can add what they like best!

FAQ

What do you eat with flatbreads?

I love to serve my flatbread recipes alongside a simple green salad or a fun pasta salad. If it’s soup season where you’re at, a warm bowl of soup is a delicious accompaniment as well!

Is Naan the same as flatbread?

You can use Naan and flatbread interchangeably in a lot of recipes (including this one) but they are different as far as their texture and the ingredients they’re made with! Naan is more fluffy than flatbread and is made with yeast and yogurt. Flatbread is typically thinner and crispier and its main ingredients are flour and water.

Do you have flatbreads with your hands?

Yes! The beauty of this BBQ chicken flatbread recipe is that it can be a delicious main dish for family dinner or it can be a super easy finger food served as an appetizer at a party. Either way, it’s a delicious handheld recipe that’s quick, easy, and delicious!
