Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Naan Bread – Naan bread can be found in most grocery stores either in the bread aisle or in the bakery area. If you can’t find naan bread, any store-bought flatbread will do. You can also throw together my easy 5-minute flatbread recipe.
  • Pizza Sauce – Pick up your favorite brand of pizza sauce or try another sauce like my garlic butter or garlic parmesan sauce.
  • Shredded Whole Milk Mozzarella – I recommend whole milk mozzarella cheese for the best flavor and texture. If you have time, grab a block and shred it yourself! Pre-shredded cheeses are coated in cellulose so they don’t clump, but this can also prevent them from melting well. If you want to keep it vegan, you can use vegan cheese but you may need to make your own naan bread as most store-bought naan contains dairy.
  • Your Favorite Toppings – Any toppings you like on your regular pizza are perfect for this naan pizza too! Get creative and don’t be afraid to let everyone in your family assemble their own pizza so they can add exactly what they want!

Toppings

It’s important to remember that you don’t want to overload the pizza with too many toppings or it will end up soggy and not crispy. However, you can still get super creative with your topping combos! Here are some of our family’s favorites:

  • chicken, bacon, broccoli, ranch
  • sausage and mushrooms
  • BBQ sauce, chicken, bell peppers
  • pesto, feta, artichokes, Parmesan cheese
  • pepperoni and green olive
  • ham and banana peppers
  • ground beef taco meat, black beans, cheddar
  • ham and pineapple
  • pesto, goat cheese, spinach, a sprinkle of red pepper flakes
  • red onion, olives, artichoke hearts

What is naan pizza?

Naan pizza is a version of pizza that uses naan bread instead of traditional pizza dough crust. It can be made with the same toppings as any other pizza or flatbread.

What is the difference between naan and pizza dough?

While they are actually quite similar in many ways, the one key difference is that naan dough is typically made with dairy – oftentimes yogurt. Whereas, pizza dough typically contains just flour, water, oil, and yeast. The dairy in the naan often makes it a bit more dense than traditional pizza dough. Overall though, they are very similar to each other which makes naan bread the perfect pizza crust!

Can you make pizza with naan bread?

Yes! Naan bread makes an amazing, soft, and fluffy pizza crust that is perfect for making pizzas.

How to make naan pizza in the air fryer?

Set the air fryer to 350 degrees and preheat. Layer your sauce and pizza toppings on the naan bread as usual and then place the pizzas in a single layer in the air fryer. Cook for 5-7 minutes or until the toppings are warmed through and the cheese is melted and turning golden brown.

How to grill naan pizza?

Oil your grill grates and heat the grill to medium heat. Assemble your naan pizzas with all your favorite toppings and grill for about 5-7 minutes or so over indirect heat.

How long do you cook a naan pizza?

Naan pizza can be cooked on the grill, in the oven, or in the air fryer. The cook times vary, but naan pizza is typically ready in about 5-10 minutes.

Make-Ahead, Storage, and Reheating

  • Make-Ahead: While you can assemble these naan pizzas an hour to two in advance if you like, they really take just minutes to throw together. I like to prep the ingredients ahead of time and then let everyone assemble their own pizza when it’s dinner time!
  • Storage: Store leftover naan pizzas by wrapping them in aluminum foil or saran wrap. Refrigerate for up to a week.
  • Reheating: Place pizza on a baking sheet and bake in a 350-degree oven for 5-10 minutes or until warmed through and the cheese is melted.
